World’s Largest CSP Plant Breaks Ground in Golmud, Qinghai; Domestic Clean Energy Technologies Accelerate Global Expansion

On June 16, the 350MW concentrated solar power (CSP) demonstration project, ranking first worldwide in single-unit heat storage capacity and mirror field coverage, officially started construction in Golmud, Qinghai. Located in the Wutumeiren PV-CSP industrial zone, the project involves total investment of over 5.4 billion RMB. It adopts fully self-developed molten salt CSP technology integrating tower and trough collector designs, equipped with long-duration molten salt heat storage to deliver stable round-the-clock power supply.

Covering a mirror field of 3.7 million square meters, the plant will generate 1 billion kWh of clean power annually upon completion. It will cut coal consumption by 320,000 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 860,000 tons each year, greatly boosting new energy absorption and peak regulation capacity of Northwest China’s power grid. All core equipment for heat collection, storage and thermal insulation is domestically developed, with high-temperature resistant reflective and thermal-insulating aluminum materials applied on a large scale.

High-temperature regions across the Middle East and North Africa see surging demand for long-duration CSP projects. The project verifies the maturity of China’s full-chain CSP technologies, unlocking huge overseas market potential for complete equipment, thermal insulation aluminum products and energy storage supporting supplies. We will keep pace with global low-carbon transition, upgrade high-temperature resistant, recyclable aluminum foil insulation materials, and support the global promotion of domestic clean energy materials and technologies.
