With the continuous relaxation of visa-free policies and the implementation of measures to facilitate inbound consumption, Chinese tourism remains popular. While experiencing the natural scenery and cultural charm of China in an immersive way, “China Shopping” has gradually become a new trend for tourists visiting China.
Recently, the Student and Youth Travel Association of the United States, along with its 16 study tour organizations, came to China to conduct on-site visits to several popular cities and customize study tour itineraries for student groups. During their 10-day trip to China, they learned Tai Chi and experienced Peking Opera culture at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Visit the Terracotta Army Museum of Emperor Qinshihuang in Xi ‘an and experience handcrafted pottery. Learn traditional tea art and tour West Lake in Hangzhou, and deeply experience the historical and cultural resources of different cities.
Data shows that since the beginning of this year, the number of inbound tourists to China has increased by more than 100% year-on-year, and their consumption levels have also risen simultaneously. The proportion of European and American tourists has significantly expanded. Among them, the consumption of American tourists has increased by 50% year-on-year, and that of French tourists has increased by 160%. The growth of inbound tourism consumption is inseparable from the implementation of a series of facilitation policies. In August this year, Hangzhou took the lead in launching the country’s first “one-click tax refund” service for leaving the country. With just a “tap” on the mobile phone, the tax refund can be credited to the account in as fast as 2 minutes.
This year, there are already 277 outbound tax refund stores in Hangzhou. The total sales amount for outbound tax refunds last year was 110 million yuan, and it is expected that the sales amount for tax refunds this year will reach 250 million yuan.
Within three months, the optimization of the tax refund experience has had an immediate positive effect on boosting local inbound consumption. In the future, the pilot scope of “one-click tax refund” will also be extended nationwide.
