Hood to Coast is the world’s only brand of long-distance road running public relay races. Since its establishment in Hainan in 2019, the “Journey to the Sea” of the China Race of the Mountain-Crossing and Sea-Crossing Human-Vehicle Relay has taken root on this most beautiful island in China. Crossing mountains in summer and reaching the sea in winter has become a must-do on the annual travel list of many runners.
This year marks the seventh time that Yue Shan Xiang Hai has come to Hainan. As the first large-scale mass international event after the full island of Hainan’s customs clearance operation, this event has been endowed with special significance. Contestants from home and abroad are not only participants but also witnesses and experiencers of a new chapter in Hainan. They will feel the changes brought about by new policies such as “zero tariffs” to Hainan with their feet.
This year’s event will be held from December 19th to 20th, with a total course length of over 142 kilometers. It is expected that more than 400 teams and 2,000 participants will take part. The event route will cross the two distinctive cities of Qionghai and Wanning, which are known for their coconut breeze and sea charm. This route will continue to be deeply integrated with the Hainan Island Tourist Road Lead everyone to experience the construction vitality and the breathtaking coastal charm of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
According to the statistical report of Beidou Tianhui, the annual mountain-crossing and sea-crossing events have brought huge cultural and tourism consumption value to Hainan. The 2024 Mountain-Crossing and Sea-Reaching event attracted a total of 52,100 tourists to Hainan, among whom 70% were from outside the island. This event will continue to contribute to promoting the in-depth integration and development of sports tourism in Hainan and accelerating the goal of establishing Hainan as a national sports tourism demonstration zone.
