The UK government has recently released a new tariff policy. Starting from April 1, 2026, import tariffs on 33 core offshore wind power components will be eliminated. The original import tax rates of 2%-6% for wind turbine blades, submarine cables and other parts will all be reduced to zero.
The tax reduction policy is implemented via the Authorised Use system. Imported products are eligible for tariff exemption as long as they are exclusively used for wind power manufacturing, covering supporting parts throughout the industrial chain such as rotors and electrical systems for power substations.
This tariff cut will save British wind power manufacturers millions of pounds in production costs each year, support the implementation of £22 billion in offshore wind power investment, and speed up the construction of large-scale offshore wind bases in the North Sea. As Europe’s largest offshore wind power market, the UK’s trade liberalization move sets an exemplary precedent, prompting multiple European countries to further lower access thresholds for green manufacturing and streamline cross-border circulation of low-carbon raw materials and new energy supporting products.
Industry analysts point out that the full opening of Europe’s green industrial chains will expand export channels for domestic manufacturers of new energy materials, packaging aluminum foil and wind power supporting equipment, ushering brand-new development opportunities for global low-carbon trade.
